I’m linking up to Three Things Thursday again this week! This great link up is hosted by Salma of The Write Balance, Raj of Pink Chai Living and Nisha of Love Laugh Mirch. Check out these talented ladies’ blogs and see who else is linking up!
It’s been a busy week over here, and here’s some of what we’ve been up to!
- New Play Spaces
Little Bear and I had a chance to visit an awesome play space this week – Kids Play Café! We loved the layout, the iced tea, and the whole concept that blends café and indoor playground. It is a great place to hang out for both parents/caregivers and kids, especially younger ones who may not enjoy some of the big, busy play spaces because they still like being able to check in or make contact with mom or dad. If you’re local to Surrey, you’ll want to check back in tomorrow for a full review of Kids Play Café! - Phan Thi Kim Phuc
If you don’t instantly recognize the name, I’m sure most of you will recognize the picture. “The Girl In The Picture” has become internationally famous and last Saturday I had the amazing opportunity to hear Kim Phuc speak about her experiences before and after the napalm bomb changed her life forever. Phuc won everyone over with her moving and emotional talk and it was clear to see how sweet, kind, forgiving, and loving this woman is. It was incredible to hear about her life since that picture; she shared stories of pain and recovery, stories of being followed by government “watchers,” and stories of her attempts at freedom.
Today she lives in Canada with her husband and two sons and works with her international foundation, The KIM Foundation International, to help young victims of war by helping build schools, hospitals, and provide other necessary assistance. - 5 Years!
Tomorrow Arun and I will be celebrating our 5th wedding anniversary! Five is the year of wood for a traditional gift, or silverware for a modern gift. Not sure where the anniversary gift list came from, but I would love to have a word with the author. How about adding foot rub, Godiva chocolates, or, in the case that you have a pregnant wife like me, Indian takeout, springs rolls, and lemonade?
Seriously though, a lot has happened in 5 years, and I’m so happy to say that I’ve had my best friend by my side. We have blossomed together, independently, and as a family. Feeling blessed and loved. On Marriage by Khalil Gibran:
You were born together, and together you shall be forevermore.
You shall be together when white wings of death scatter your days.
Aye, you shall be together even in the silent memory of God.
But let there be spaces in your togetherness,
And let the winds of the heavens dance between you.
Love one another but make not a bond of love:
Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls.
Fill each other’s cup but drink not from one cup.
Give one another of your bread but eat not from the same loaf.
Sing and dance together and be joyous, but let each one of you be alone,
Even as the strings of a lute are alone though they quiver with the same music.
Give your hearts, but not into each other’s keeping.
For only the hand of Life can contain your hearts.
And stand together, yet not too near together:
For the pillars of the temple stand apart,
And the oak tree and the cypress grow not in each other’s shadow.
