I’m linking up to Three Things Thursday again this week! This fun weekly link-up is hosted by Salma of The Write Balance, Raj of Pink Chai Living, and Nisha of Love Laugh Mirch. Check out these blogs to see what these talented ladies are talking about this Thursday or to check out all the other blogs linking up!
1) May showers bring…
June flowers! And while we didn’t have a tonne of May showers in these parts, I am loving the beautiful flowers out right now, especially these gorgeous peonies that we have in our garden.
I’m so proud of these guys! They have the “rags to riches” stories of flowers! We got them on sale at the end of the season for a few bucks per plant. They were small and didn’t really look like much, so we didn’t expect anything, but thought we’d give them a chance. And voila! Every year these gorgeous peonies get bigger and more beautiful. These flowers always make me think of the beginning of summer and always remind me of our wedding, where we had ordered these beautiful flowers only to have a bad season make it impossible to get them in time for our wedding day! We may not have had them that day, but I get to enjoy them every anniversary now!
2) Snacks
One of the biggest differences (there are actually a lot, but that’s for a different post!) in being pregnant this time around is how hungry I am ALL THE TIME. Seriously. Even right now, as I type these words, I’m visualizing a gigantic bowl of popcorn.
I’m a huge snacker, and one snack that I absolutely love and generally try to keep a batch of in the fridge at all times are energy balls/bites. This week I tried an energy ball recipe I hadn’t tried before…of course, modifying and tinkering, because I can’t leave well enough alone! The original recipe for these Almond Joy Energy Bites is from Gimme Some Oven, but I subbed half the almonds for hazelnuts, omitted the cocoa, added only almond extract, and no vanilla extract. Deeeeelicious! If you’re looking for a snack to keep handy, try these out today!
3) One of my favourite streets in Vancouver…
is Granville Street – as in South Granville! Give me South Granville over Robson any day! What do I love? The shops, the Stanley Theatre, and of course how close it is to everything (Granville Island, the downtown core, and it’s basically a direct channel to anywhere in Vancouver!).
Yesterday I got to enjoy my morning with a close friend and we checked out a place that I’ve been wanting to try for literally years! We checked out Paul’s Omelettery, a cute all-day breakfast/lunch restaurant located at Granville and 6th Avenue.
I had read online that Paul’s Omelettery is a family friendly restaurant, but you never really know what to expect until you check out a place. As soon as we entered the restaurant, we were not just greeted, but truly welcomed in, with the staff being amazing with Little Bear. My friend and I each went with a simple and classic two egg breakfast and Little Bear, who has suddenly decided he likes cheese (thank you Arun!) went with a grilled cheese sandwich off of the kids’ menu. The two egg breakfast was deceptively filling and I was full for the better part of the day. Little Bear’s grilled cheese was made with marble rye and came with a side of fries. Even though it was off of the kids’ menu, this meal was big enough to feed an adult, but since Little Bear absolutely loved all of it, he actually ate most of what was on his overflowing plate.
If you go and check it out, make sure to try out the Caribbean hot sauce on the table! This stuff is hot and sooooo good! Sure, they didn’t make it, but I do love my hot sauce!
Overall: great food, great atmosphere, friendly staff – I’d go back to Paul’s Omelettery in a heartbeat.
After breakfast, we had a chance to do a bit of shopping – both window and real. As I mentioned before, I love the shops in this area of town. One thing that I knew I needed was some more of my favourite bowls from West Elm.
I love these textured dip bowls – they are the perfect size for snacking! Unfortunately, they are all out of the teal bowls and don’t know if they’ll get more in! *Sigh* I love teal as much as I love everything with an owl on it! Since they’re on sale, I picked up a few of the slate ones. Now is a perfect time to pick some up since they’re as low as $2.60 a bowl!
In addition to grabbing some bowls, I had a chance to drool over just about everything in Williams-Sonoma and Anthropologie, and I introduced Little Bear to the wonder that is Pottery Barn Kids! I think the poor kid wanted to leave with half the store. Welcome to my world, kiddo.
